Implants

A remarkable procedure, implants can replace any or all of your teeth. The implant becomes integrated with the bone and acts like a "bolt" which will ultimately support a new tooth. The advantages of implants for patients with dentures are: denture stability, increased patient comfort and confidence. While implants themselves are inserted by a surgeon, our role is planning the placement of implants and restoring the integrated implants after surgery.

There are three types of services for patients missing all of their teeth:

Overdentures (Removable Prosthetics
retained by attachments or bars)

Fixed/Detachable (Restorations screwed into place on the Implants. They can be removed by the dentist but not by the patients)

Crown and Bridge Restorations
(Very much like the crowns or "caps" that you would put on natural teeth.)

For patients missing some of their teeth there is basically one type of restoration:

Crown and Bridge Restorations (Very much like the crowns or "caps" that you would put on natural teeth. These restorations differ from the crown & bridge restorations above in that there are natural teeth present in the arch)

For patients missing only one tooth:

Single Tooth Restorations (A major challenge in restorative implant dentistry is the replacement of a single missing tooth. Years ago, we didn't have the tools necessary to do this properly, but today, we have the capabilities to do this.)

Hygiene

An integral part of maintaining your teeth for life is the removal of plaque and tartar on a regular basis. The frequency of your visits is based upon your individual needs and oral health. During your visit we will update your medical history, check your teeth for cavities, review oral hygiene instructions, and monitor your periodontal (gum) condition. Fluoride treatments are provided when appropriate. See also periodontal disease and

Periodontal Disease

While seldom painful and frequently free of any obvious signs or symptoms, periodontal disease can progress, undetected, to the point where supporting bone is destroyed. With 80 to 90% of all teenagers having some form of gingivitis (inflamed gums) and 75% of adult tooth loss for people over the age of 35 due to periodontal disease, early treatment and prevention is essential. While periodontal disease is caused by bacterial plaque, a number of other factors including poorly fitting bridges, badly aligned teeth and defective fillings contribute to the development of this condition.

Not all periodontal disease requires surgery. As with all of our treatments, we will be as conservative as possible. Many periodontal conditions can be treated non-surgically in our office.

Drilless Dentistry

Imagine being able to have routine fillings done without injections or drilling!!!! We can now to routine fillings with a technique called "Air Abrasion". Please be aware that this is not appropriate for all cavities. You can be evaluated for it at the office.

Whitening

Nothing freshens up your appearance like a whiter, brighter smile. But those "glorified toothpastes" at the grocery store just can't give you the whitest possible smile. Only your dentist can. We can safely bleach your teeth to lighten discoloration caused by food, coffee, tobacco, aging and other sources. It's safe. It's effective. And it's so fast.

Tooth whitening is a bleaching process that lightens discolorations and removes stains from the enamel and dentin of the teeth. We use a mild solution retained in a custom fitted appliance that is worn over your teeth while you sleep or during the day.

Before After Before After

Veneers

Veneers are custom-made porcelain shells specially prepared to make your teeth look natural. They can be used to change the color and shape of your teeth to improve their appearance. Porcelain is a durable and stain resistant material.

To provide room and help strenghten the veneers a small amount of enamel is usually removed from the front of the teeth. An impression is then made of your teeth from which the custom veneers are made to precisely fit your teeth. On the second visit the veneers are bonded to your teeth.

Even the most subtle change in your smile can make a dramatic difference in the way you look and feel. When you feel and look good, you project a confident self-image. So, make the most of your smile.

Before After Before After

Intraoral Camera

Utilizing an intra-oral camera gives both you and us the opportunity to see potential problems occurring in your mouth, such as decay or fractured teeth. Often a tooth will not start bothering you until there is significant loss of tooth structure. With the help of the intra-oral camera, we can show you problems that exist in your mouth, so you can better understand the necessity for treatment.

Sealants

Highly effective in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth, sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored acrylic "coating" is painted onto the surface of the tooth. This effectively "seals" the deep grooves where decay is most likely to start. This procedure is highly recommended for children.

Crowns

A "cap", "jacket" or "crown" will restore a broken, heavily filled or cracked tooth to its original size and shape. This may also be recommended after root canal therapy has been completed as the tooth tends to become brittle and is more apt to fracture. Crowns can strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and improve the appearance of your teeth.

Fillings

Of course, your front teeth fillings are done with tooth colored composite material. Fillings on back teeth with tooth colored composite material is now firmly established as a true alternative to amalgams( silver and mercury). The advantage of these composite materials include:

  • Esthetics

  • Being mercury free

  • Preserving the maximum amount of sound tooth structure

  • Avoiding fracture lines and subsequent fractures of teeth, which we see all too frequently with amalgam fillings.  For more information regarding mercury fillings, see http://www.amalgam.org

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry encompasses reshaping your teeth, veneers or bonding, natural looking tooth-colored fillings and bleaching.

Oral Surgery

The goal of modern dentistry is to prevent tooth loss. When a tooth cannot be saved, extraction (removal) of the tooth may be the only course of treatment. Most minor surgeries are performed at our facility, however the doctor may choose to refer to a maxillofacial surgeon for more complicated cases.

Bridges

A non-removable bridge can restore your teeth to normal function by replacing missing teeth. It will improve the entire health of your mouth by keeping the surrounding teeth in position and can also help maintain the structure of your face and jaw.

Root Canal Therapy

If a tooth's pulp (nerve and blood supply) becomes infected or inflamed, root canal treatment may be the only way to save the tooth, short of removing it. Root canal treatment consists of removing the nerve that lies within the root of the tooth.

Dentures

Many people believe that once they have dentures, they no longer need regular dental care. Denture wearers require regular exams to ensure their health, comfort and appearance. Gum tissues are in a constant state of change. Periodic relining of the dentures may be necessary to ensure a tight and comfortable fit. Please be aware that denture can be made much more secure by use of implants. [make the work "implants" link to the implants section on this page]

Athletic Mouthguards

We provide state of the art custom made athletic mouthguards for all patients requiring protection during athletic competition in "at risk" sports. Store bought over the counter mouthguards do not fit as well nor do they provide the anticipated and necessary protection to help prevent dental/facial injuries. The only mouthguard that should be worn is that made from a model of the mouth. Patients have individual requirements for fit, comfort, level of competition, and compliance. The professionally designed custom made mouthguard satisfies these requirements.
